The Protection Officer is responsible for field-level coordination, implementation, and quality assurance of DRC's SIDA P2P protection, mixed migration, return/reintegration, and related Economic Recovery linkages in Mogadishu and relevant South-Central return and transit locations. The role supports timely, protection-sensitive delivery of DRC direct activities and field-level accompaniment of local partners across various activities.
Protection services, case management, and direct assistance:
Coordinate vulnerability screening and protection risk assessments for migrants and returnees.
Provide technical guidance to DRC caseworkers and support partner case management.
Facilitate safe referrals to specialized services based on assessed needs.
PSS, return/reintegration, and Economic Recovery linkages:
Coordinate delivery of structured individual and group PSS.
Support dignified reception, protection screening, and information counseling.
Work with Economic Recovery colleagues to link returnees to employment pathways.
Protection Monitoring, referral systems, and evidence:
Coordinate regular community and route-based Protection Monitoring.
Support service mapping and monitor referral functionality.
Use monitoring trends to inform programme adaptation and reporting.
Partner, government, and stakeholder coordination:
Provide technical accompaniment to local partners and government counterparts.
Support existing government-led migration and referral systems.
Coordinate with authorities and humanitarian actors for relevant activities.
Planning, monitoring, reporting, and compliance:
Maintain field activity plans and monitor delivery against targets.
Coordinate with relevant programme teams for accurate documentation.
Ensure compliance with DRC policies and donor requirements.
Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a closely related field.
Relevant training in Protection, case management, PSS, mixed migration, and return/reintegration.
Minimum 3 years of relevant Protection experience in humanitarian or mixed migration settings.
Demonstrated experience in case management and protection-sensitive direct assistance.
Experience working with local partners and government authorities.
Strong planning, analysis, reporting, communication, and data-protection skills.
Languages: Advanced English proficiency and Native/Fluent Somali.

Contract length: 6 months with the possibility of extension depending on budget availability and performance.

Reporting to: Protection Team Leader
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contract.
