    MSF is a humanitarian medical organization providing emergency medical aid to populations in need. Somalia mission set up a new Project in Baidoa at Bay Regional Hospital, Bay region Somalia and now is looking for:

    Main Purpose

    Provide psychological support to patients according to MSF principles and protocols in order to improve the patients’ mental health.

    Accountabilities

    Carry out evaluation of psychological and mental health needs of patients,

    Diagnose any psychological or psychiatric disorder and if necessary, refer the patient to the medical team in order to receive drug treatment.

    Implement the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identify possible victims of SGBV and refer them to the medical team so that they receive the necessary treat-ment.

    Inform the patient and his/her relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and drug treatment to follow in order to improve the patient’s condition.

    Provide psychoeducation to the medical team to help them understand the role of mental health in patient management

    Technically support the lay counsellors and medical team in mental health matters

    Contribute to the project’s EPREP Plan and Mass casualty plan in terms of mental health support to patients and families

    Provide psychological support and psychotherapy sessions (individual, family, group) to patients according to MSF protocols to improve their mental health conditions

    Refer patients to other health professionals whenever necessary in order to provide the most appropriate treatment

    Assist and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of MH activities

    Support the outreach and DMC team in MH needs assessment in the community

    Technically support the management of mental health patients in pediatricsu, maternity and Outreach

    Put in place effective follow up mechanisms for mental health patients.

    Collect statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities

    Work in close collaboration with lay counsellors in order to ensure that appropriate termi-nology and behavior is used during sessions.

    Inform the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible solution from a medical perspective

    Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential

    Debrief staff members after a difficult event, mass casualty etc

    Support the Health promotion team in creating awareness on MH with other stakeholders in the community.

    Requirements

    Education

    Experience

    Essential degree or diploma in Psychology

    2 years’ experience minimum as a Psychologist

    Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGO in developing countries, in conflict settings or epidemics.

    Languages • Essential is fluency in English and Somali language

    Knowledge • Desirable computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
